About the event

This event is to help raise funds for Attic After School.

Attic After School is a Faith based program that serves students mostly from the Wyoming Public School District. Our ministry is unique in that we offer students in 7th – 12th grades a safe, positive, and fun place to hang out, where they receive snacks, a drink, and a place to get their homework done.

Attic After School is a place where students form relationships with adult mentors and other students they might not normally associate with. Attic is a place where students are accepted for who they are and where they are at in life. Our doors are open from 2:30 – 5pm, which according to the Wyoming Police this is a time when juvenile crime peaks.

Imagine students who are struggling with their identity, they’re looking to be loved, maybe they’re facing peer pressure, or something worse like self-harm. The students walking through our doors every day are struggling with these things. They’re in our neighborhood, they’re in our schools, there in our churches and in our families.

We currently have 90 different students that have attended this year with an average of 32 daily. Since the start of this program we have had over 600 students attend AAS.

We enjoyed building relationships and mentoring students through many different struggles they are facing, by using God’s word as the truth. After feeding the students and building relationships we have something called talk time every day which is a Bible story or a personal testimony. After talk time we have a group game and at 5 pm we bring many students home.

We know firsthand, there is a great need for teenagers to have a safe, fun, and positive place to hang out after school. We have been working in collaboration with the Wyoming Police Department to keep students safe and out of trouble by giving them a place to go where they are accepted and shown the love of Christ. We have mentored many students through struggles they are currently going through or have been through.

We build relationships with each student to the point they feel comfortable sharing with us things that could potentially get them in trouble at home, or school, even worse, in trouble with the police. We help them bridge those gaps and help students to see authority as someone to trust. Mentoring students through God’s Word help them make better choices. I would say there is a great need for an Attic After School in every community.

Attic After School currently meets in the attic of Wyoming Park Bible Church at 2260 Porter, Wyoming. Our dream is to find a building in Wyoming to start a youth center and continue to serve teens in many different ways.

Attic After School has impacted over 600 students and their families. By offering this program we have learned about many different struggles families are going through. We have had the privilege to help students and some families work through different situations: homelessness, teen pregnancy, thoughts of suicide, bills, housing, police, problems with or at school, substance abuse, family struggles, even the loss of a loved one.

Our biggest change over the last year would be changing Attic After School to a 501c3. We are now separate from the church and we are free to stay in the attic of the church or move to a new facility. This year we have started a Life Skills program where students are introduced to different skilled trades for those who do not plan to attend college. When they graduate they could start a career in a skilled trade and eventually support a family.

The students are the future leaders of our neighborhood, city, county, state, and even our country. We have built a relationship with the Wyoming Police Department and invite them to come hang out with our students. The first time we had a police officer Jason show up to hang out with the students, several students left in a hurry and others stood outside asking who is in trouble. Now, when a police officer shows up, students challenge them to a game of playing ping pong or foose ball. Sometimes students just like talking with them.

We serve snacks and small meals during Attic, which helps alleviate hunger in some families that you have learned don’t have much food to go home to. Additionally, we challenge them to make positive life choices, and stay out of trouble. Keeping teenagers off the streets and from getting into trouble, while parents are still at work, is a win for the teens, their families, and our community.

Most importantly our prayer is that we see teens change their eternity by accept Jesus Christ as their personal savior.

If you would like for you to stop by and check out Attic After School in action Mondays, Tuesdays, or Thursdays from 2:30pm – 5pm.
